Military Misinformation: Another Fake Photo

Yet another altered photograph has briefly hit the news causing a furor, but this composite was actually given to the Associated Press by the US military. Initially caught by San Antonio Express-News photojournalist Bob Owen, the altered photo showed Staff Sgt. Darris J. Dawson’s head pasted onto the body of Sgt. Wesley R. Durbin, whose photo had already been released. The AP quickly caught and removed the photo before it was widely released, but there has been quite a flurry surrounding the story.

The Pentagon has yet to release more detailed information about the deaths of these soldiers, who were killed in Iraq, but not in combat.
