It’s that time again: we all have to pick a new President. Our current President is soon to be relegated to the bottom of the constitutional toy box worn out and missing a few pieces. Soon we’ll have a shiny new one, lots of new promises, a little hope and if we’re lucky more stimulus checks. The spotlight is once again focused on the greatest show our country has to offer: Politics. The people that run our country are rock stars. They may not always play the tune we’d always like they elevated to the highest stature of our democratic society.
As a photographer in Washington, D.C. my work and life revolves around politics. On any given day I can be on Capitol Hill at the White House or looking for a campaign rally in a place that I didn’t know existed prior to getting an email with the assignment details. Everything is pre-planned. What my camera is pointed at is designed to look a certain way and send a certain message. Sometimes there are exceptions, the odd song and dance or something that strays from the plan. Those moments are what I hope for. It’s something different, something odd and usually funny.
