VewdNews is hiring writers and editors!

This isn't your grandma's news source. We're looking to hire people with opinions, a strong voice, and a drive to create amazing content for our readers!

Are you an enthusiastic and talented writer? Do you have experience or knowledge in photography, media, journalism, or some other subject? We'd love to feature your content here at VewdNews. Writers should be able to produce several articles a month, if that's your style. Or, if you would prefer to write short articles, primarily featuring amazing content elsewhere, you should be able to produce several articles each week. Being in the know is essential to this position, but we will help you find new stuff.

Not really into the opinionated stuff? That's fine. We are also looking for someone to create breaking news stories, much less of the Huffington Post and more the Washington Post. Not boring, dry news, but important and real news. Should be able to create at least one breaking news article each week, at a minimum.

More interested in editing? That's cool.
Vewd is looking to bring in two editors over the next several months to copy edit, motivate and direct writers, fabricate story ideas, and probably some other things. This position is very flexible, but a minimal time requirement of about 15 hours a week is necessary.

All jobs are volunteer at least until March but all are telecommute, so you can hang where you are. Most all Vewd employees communicate and work from long distances, so we are very comfortable dealing with that. We will help you adjust to this environment and make sure it works for you.

Writers:

News:

Prepare a minimum of 1 article each week
Be interested in writing about photography, photojournalism, media, etc
Willing to take direction and complete edits give by the staff of editors
Able to hold a deadline
Find a way of illustrating the article, a photo or visual of some kind

Commentary:

Create 3-5 articles each month, of at least 1,000 words.

Link articles and briefs:

Create 2-4 articles each week, linking to something online and offering a brief comment on it. Articles would be under 200 words.

Able to hold a deadline
Find a way of illustrating the article, a photo or visual of some kind

Editors:

Work with a team of around 10 writers to create content daily
Actively participate in the editing process of most articles
Forge good relationships with writers
Work to keep the editing and posting process moving forward
Give constructive criticisms
Able to commit between 10 and 20 hours each week

Social media brand ambassador

Vewd Media is seeking inventive and ambitious go-getters fascinated by developing new media evolution who want to work in a fun environment with an energetic team.

A successful applicant should be able to dedicate 5-10 hours a week to act as brand ambassador. Manage and expand our online profiles at Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Pownce, Lightstalkers, Flickr, Care2, YouTube, and many others. We are looking for someone passionate about photography, public relations and social media who is experienced in leveraging the power of social networks to raise awareness and increase website traffic.

Duties involve:

• Managing content and increasing supporter numbers on social networking properties, including: MySpace, Facebook, Care2, YouTube, Twitter, and external blogs;
• Adapting appearance of social networking presences to be more visually appealing;
• Communicating with members and supporters;
• Researching and assisting in the creation of new widgets and applications;
• Identifying new opportunities for engagement with like-minded organizations and companies in social networking spaces;
• Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications include:

• Strong computer and internet skills; knowledge of and enthusiasm for web-based applications
• Strong verbal and written communication;
• High energy; commitment to social change;
• Work experience in an office or educational setting;
• Ability to multitask, handle details, maintain organization;
• Eager to learn about new media, and an interest in documentary photography.
